策展實績 > 一直在路上─陳薌普水墨畫展 Always on A Journey
Artist Statement ｜CHEN Hsiang-Pu
In senior high school, I had a group of friends who played and painted with me. After entering college, we went our separate ways. In the letters sent, there was a line as such...
The wind in City of Wind has bred our charm.
Alas, how narcissistic and confident! Swift fly 50 years, charm is worn down. Displayed in my hometown, this exhibition is a memorial of the past naïveness.
I began learning to paint under LEE Tze-Fan when I was 17 years old. Not being interested in studying, schools became constraints in my youth, during which learning sketches and water painting in Mr. LEE’s home every Sunday morning was the happiest moment.
Mr. LEE kept a low profile and led a plain life with sincerity, creating paintings of richness and depth quietly while not teaching. Long after, I realized how fortunate I was to be a student to such a model of both life and art.
I traveled to Dzungaria this summer, enjoying the foreign beauty of the border town. The journey was long and the land looked borderless, which made me feel that I was, as the guide said, “always on a journey”.
The world of art is enormous and the journey of creation is limitless. Borrowed as the exhibition’s title, the term is both a symbol and an encouragement to the artist who began her career 50 years ago.
